Smith Big Day Leads to Weekly Award

Hannah Smith of Hollister High School has duplicated the feat she accomplished exactly one year ago being named the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week.

Smith is being honored for the same accomplishments she was last year, finishing first in three events and the Branson Invitational Track Meet. Smith claimed first in the 100 and 200 Meter Dashes as well as the Long Jump. Smith also was a part of the Lady Tigers fourth place finish on the 4 x 100 Meter Relay Team.

MBCA All-Academic Trio Wins S-A Of The Week Award

This week's Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athletes of the Week are an example of excelling both on the court and in the classroom.

Jessie Barton, Chandler Hall, and Drew Russell of the Branson Basketball Program were named to the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-Academic Team, which sets a standard of performance both on the court along with the grade point average and test scores in the classroom. All three players were key parts to their teams' success this season. Barton helped the Lady Pirates to a Runner-Up finish in the Pink and White Lady Classic as well as the program's fifth straight Bolivar Tournament Championship. Hall and Russell were key components in leading the Pirates, picked in the lower half of the Central Ozark Conference Large Basketball Race, to an outright conference championship.

C of O Duo S-A of the Week

Two of the College of the Ozarks basketball players instrumental in another Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Title and a return trip the NAIA Division Two Women's National Championships are the Hometown Radio/Pizza World Student-Athletes of the Week.

Kayla Kepler and Emily Walker are part of a Lady Bobcat team that has won 29 games entering this week's National Tournament. Kepler is averaging just under 10 points per game and is also a team leader in rebounds and assists. Kepler had a triple/double in a win against Central Christian earlier this season, scoring 14 points along with grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists.

Meanwhile Walker is the team's second leading scorer averaging around 11 points per game and is also a leader in rebounds and assists. Walker, who is also one of the team's top defenders, had two big games against College of Saint Mary, scoring 22 against the Flames in the regular season home contest and then 18 this past Tuesday in the Conference Tournament Final.

Sheets Gets Weekly Award

Austin Selby of the Reeds Spring Boys Basketball Team is the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week.

Selby helped the Wolves overcome a slow first month of the season and post a perfect 6-0 mark for January and help the team win seven of their last eight games overall. Selby scored 17 points in the Wolves final game of the month, a 71-60 win over Fair Grove.

Cheyenne Sheets of the Blue Eye Girls Basketball team is the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week.

Sheets had a huge night in the Lady Bulldog win last week over Sparta, scoring 32 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in the win. That effort was part of a string of three straight games in which Sheets has posted a double-double.

Unruh Gets Weekly Award

Thatch Unruh's big game last week against Rogersville has netted the Branson Senior this week's Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week honor.

Unruh scored 35 points and helped the Pirates stay in the game against the hot shooting Rogersville squad as Branson eventually pulled away for the win. Unruh was not the only Pirate that had a big game last week as previous S-A of the Week winner Da'Quan Ervin scored 38 points in the Pirates loss on Saturday to St. Louis Vianney at the Camdenton Laker Shootout.

Simniok Wins Final Weekly Award For 2012

Broaden LeMaster of the Reeds Spring Wrestling Program is the first Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week for 2013.

LeMaster was the top area finisher at the Branson Wrestling Tournament taking FIrst Place in the 152 Pound Weight Class.

Simniok Wins Final Weekly Award For 2012

Nathane Simniok of the College of the Ozarks is the final Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week for 2012.

Simniok teamed up with previous S-A of the Week winner Mike Wiebe to help the Bobcats get two wins last week. While Wiebe was averaging 30 points in the two games, Simniok contribution for the win was a pair of double-doubles, scoring 26 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the win over Evangel, then adding 18 points and 15 boards in the win over Mid-American Christian. Simniok is close to averaging a double-double for the season, current averaging 18 points and 9.93 rebounds in 14 games.

The Weekly Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week Awards will resume in January.

Smith is Student-Athlete of the Week

Morgan Smith of the College of the Ozarks Women's Basketball Team is the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student Athlete of the Week.

Smith has already hit two personal milestones this season, scoring her 2000th Career Point in November and then this past week moving up to second place on the All-Time C of O Lady Bobcat scoring list in the wn over Missouri Valley. Smith has already been named Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week and has helped the Lady Bobcats to a 12-1 start for the season.

David Wins Weekly Award

Kyle David of the Hollister Boys Basketball Team is the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week.

David helped the Hollister Tigers win their first four games of the season including the championship of the Marionville Tournament scoring 24 points in the finals against Wheaton. David added 21 points in Tuesday night's game against Strafford. The Tigers are 4-1 entering Friday night's contest at Blue Eye.

Wiebe Gets First Player of the Week Award for Winter Sports

Mike Wiebe has come out of the shoot quickly for College of the Ozarks and has lead the Bobcat Basketball Senior to be the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week.

Wiebe has scored 30 plus points three times in the Bobcats first six games as the Bobcats have started the season 5-1. Two of the 30 point game happened in back to back wins on the road against Mid-America Christian (31) and Missouri Valley (35).

Special Student-Atheletes of the Week Honors

A special Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week honor for several College of the Ozarks Athletes. Last week, the C of O Basketball and Volleyball Teams had strong performances that led them to an undefeated week.

The Lady Bobcat Volleyball team finished out the season with two wins and had Hannah Meadows and Hayley Blair named Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter and Libero of the Week respecitively while Hannah Brown was nominated for the Setter of the Week.

Meanwhile, the Lady Bobcat Basketball Team won their opening games of the season led by a pair of 25 point performances by Morgan Smith.

Also last week, the Men's Basketball squad opened with three wins. Nathane Simniok had two double-doubles in wins against St. Mary and Graceland while Mike Wiebe had 32 points in the Bobcats overtime win against nationally ranked St. Mary.

Curnes Earns Weekly Award

Danielle Curnes of the Reeds Spring Lady Wolves Volleyball Team is the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week.

Curnes had two strong matches on the same night during the Class 3 District Tournament, totalling 24 Kills and 31 Digs in the semi-final match win against Aurora and the title match against Hollister. The Lady Wolves finished with a 20-14 record and claimed the Class 3 District Championship.

Johnston, Givens Win Another Award

For the past three years, Taylor Johnston and Lucy Givens have received the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week award after a successful tennis season. The circumstances this year are a little different.

The past two years, Johnston and Givens were awarded based on their performance as a Doubles Team in District and State Competition. But this season Coach Teresa Givens shuffled things up and had Johnston enter state competition as a singles player while Givens teamed up with her younger sister (and previous S-A of the Week Winner) CeCe Givens.

The result was District and Sectional Championships for all three and leading the Lady Pirates team to a second straight quarterfinal appearance in the Class 2 State Tournament. Lucy Givens, who also won an award her Freshman year, joins a small group of four time award winners.

SPECIAL NOTE:
This winners of the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athletes the past two weeks also had big accomplishments over the last week. The Forsyth Tennis Doubles Team of Sami Johnson and Avery Lawson finished third at the Class 1 State Tournament while last week's winner Brigette Caruthers of the Branson Cross Country Team added a District Championship to her COC title earlier in the year, leading the Lady Pirates Team to a District Title.

Caruthers Gets Student Athlete of the Week Honor

Brigette Caruthers is making her annual push to run her best at the end of the Cross Country Season and that effort has earned her the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week Award.

After battling an illness for part of the season, Caruthers is getting back to form as she claimed the Central Ozark Conference Large Division Girls Cross Country Title last week helping the Lady Pirates to a second place finish in the team competition. Caruthers followed that up last weekend with a 12th Place finish at the Chille Pepper Run in Fayetteville, Arkansas that featured over 60 schools from around the region in the field. Caruthers and the rest of the Cross Country Pirates will race in the Class 4 District Meet Saturday at Nixa.

Forsyth Tennis Duo Wins Award

The Forsyth Tennis Doubles Team of Sami Johnson and Avery Lawson won District and Sectional Tennis Championships on back to back days and earn the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week award.

The duo took home the Class 1 District Doubles Title on Monday after two rainouts in Rogersville, then return to Rogersville on Tuesday to claim the Sectional Title and earn their second trip to the State Tennis Tournament in as many years. The Duo also won Doubles Tournaments in the regular season on their home court as well as at Nixa and Waynesville.

Hurst Gets Weekly Award

Derek Hurst of the Forsyth Baseball Team is the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week.

Hurst helped the team in a late season run that earned them a second place finish in the Southwest Central League Tournament. Hurst threw a no-hitter against Morrisville in late September striking out six, then won the SWCL Tournament Semi-final against Billings Monday night 10-0 striking out five. During the final stretch of the season, Hurst also batted around .500 at the plate.

Shook Wins Student Ahtlete of the Week

Chandler Shook's big night returning kicks for the Hollister Football team has earned him the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week Award.

Shook had a total of 233 Return Yards including a including a 97 Yard Kick-off Return for a touchdown in the Tigers game against Springfield Catholic. For the season, Shook is the team's leading rusher and second leading scorer.

Pirate Soccer Player is Student Athlete of the Week

Patrick Hubbard of the Branson Soccer Team is the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week.

Hubbard helped the Pirates to a big week as first, he had three goals in the Pirates Central Ozark Conference win against Republic, then had a big hand in getting the Pirates the Monett Tournament Championship including key goals against both Monett and Cassville that got the Pirates to the Championship Match, which they won over Carl Junction.

CeCe is Third Givens Sister to Win Weekly Award

CeCe Givens is the third member of the Givens Family to win the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week Award.

CeCe, whose older sisters Maggie and Lucy have been past winners of the award, is off to an undefeated start in singles play during her Sophmore Season including wins in singles matches earlier this week against stong teams from Columbia Rock Bridge and from Edwardsville, Illinois.

Pizza World and Hometown Radio will honor Student-Athletes during the 2012-13 School Year.

Ervin Earns Weekly Award

Da'Quan Ervin's play in last Friday's Branson Football win over Bolivar not only helped the Pirates to an upset win, but also earned him the Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week Award.

Ervin, a junior Defensive Back and Wide Receiver, had an interception return for a touchdown as well as a couple of other big defensive plays as well as a big run on a Pirates scoring drive to help Branson knock off the Class 4 State Ranked Liberators.

Pizza World and Hometown Radio will honor a Student-Athlete weekly during the school year.

Flaugh First Student-Athlete Award Winner for School Year

Easton FlaughThe First Pizza World/Hometown Radio Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 School Year is Reeds Spring Football Player Easton Flaugh.

The Wolves second year starting Quarterback had a big game in the opener last Friday night against Willow Springs, scoring on a 67 yard run and throwing touchdown passes of 17 and 50 yards in leading Reeds Spring to a 20-14 win over the Bears.

Pizza World and Hometown Radio will honor a Student-Athlete of the Week each week throughout the school year.
